Leadership Midwest City

Leadership Midwest City is a program designed to prepare leaders for volunteer positions of public responsibility and effective leadership.  Its purpose is to:

 

  • Identify and motivate potential leaders.
  • Acquaint participants with the community and its needs.
  • Encourage identification of challenges and creative solutions.
  • Sharpen leadership skills and techniques.

Leadership Midwest City seeks to develop participant’s knowledge and skills through a series of sessions and by leading citizens and specialists in selected fields.  The sessions combine tours, lectures, demonstrations and dialogue between speakers and members of the class.  Topics: Team Building; Leadership Skills; the Chamber of Commerce; Economic Development; City Government; Fire Safety, Law Enforcement and Municipal Courts; Public Service Opportunities; State and County Government; Health Care; Mid-Del Schools and Vocational/Technical Education; Industry; Rose State College; and Tinker Air Force Base.

 

Leadership Midwest City meets from 1 to 4 p.m. Thursday afternoons tentatively beginning with a full  mandatory Friday orientation in January with graduation following in April/May.  Sessions may also take place in all day sessions.  Participants qualify for graduation by attendance of sessions and participation in a class project. Participants are allowed to have one excused absence during the eleven sessions. Participation in the class project is mandatory to graduate from Leadership Midwest City. The class project is selected by a majority vote of the class.
